Why I Decided to Close My X (formerly Twitter) Account for Good
I’ve finally done it—I’ve officially closed my X account (yep, that’s what we’re calling Twitter these days). Honestly, it’s one of the best decisions I’ve made recently. Here’s why.
Growing up, there was no social media, and I couldn’t be more thankful for that! Imagine going through bullying during the day and then having to deal with it online all night—ugh, no, thank you. Nowadays, with social media everywhere, people—especially young ones—are constantly bombarded with negativity. It’s exhausting and, let’s be real, overwhelming.
Social Media: From Fun to Frustrating
When social media first appeared, it seemed fun, right? Lately, however, platforms like X have become less about connection and more about spreading misinformation and endless trolling. Honestly, it’s like a never-ending battle between negativity and misinformation. And who has the energy for that?
Why I Closed My X Account: It’s Not Just Me
Now, I know I’m just one person. However, I couldn’t sit back and continue to be part of a platform that no longer aligns with my values. I believe we have a responsibility to contribute positively. When someone with as much influence as Elon Musk steers the ship into murky waters, it’s time to react. It’s time to jump off. Social media is used to encourage healthy discourse, but that seems to be disappearing 🙁
My Work and Ethics Matter More
As a trauma and PTSD coach, ethics are everything in my work. I help women navigate anxiety and trauma, so I can’t support a platform that amplifies negativity. We all deserve a space that’s respectful, supportive, and uplifting.
Goodbye, Negativity on Social Media—Hello, Peace
Closing my X account was a small step toward creating more peace in my digital life. So I know that I may not change the world, but it’s a step in the right direction for me. If you’re feeling bombarded by negativity on social media, maybe it’s time to take a break, too.
